Dreamgarden

by Brian Jude

Thirteenth hour lunchbreak
when the girls come back
and I go out back
behind my workplace
where I do nowork -
just sit'n daydream
a Hamilton an hour
occasionally silencing
the interrupting bettuttering-

Out back,
in a garden of green,
the Eden of eatin'
lot blocked by fence of cedar.
A branch-canopied picnic table
where I eat peanut butter on wheat,
readin' to rotate mind gears
til the eyes tire,
body shuts off,
and brain turn burns
outta control.

Horizontal on tablebench,
with shades to block solar intrusion,
slippin' into half-nap limboland
where Tink digs on Pete's groove.
Sandwich digest triggers trippin',
trippin' through atmospace,
amebic shapes of neural haze-
colorful visions of greys
peepin' down on me
changin' expressions on face
to hold my interest:
blank stare!
laughing!
angry!
menacingly mean!
blank stare!
jolted!
surprised!
curious!
smart alec!
blank stare!...

Breath harmonizing with roll-rubber swishes,
the pedalpoint to choruses of innervoices
chattering,
chatter, chatter, chatter-
whadayou sayin'?...

Listen,

Small talk of angels talking shit-
God's gossip about my neighbor
-all gibberish and nonsense,
secret code passed to me
in babytalk halleluias...

Conversation with half-brother-
Where'd he come from?
Own flesh and blood
with similar looks,
big heart, mind brilliant,
youth?
I know you!
Don't remember your birthday.
Where ya been hidin'?

Talking more...

More talking with...

who?
You?
You who?
Yoo-hoo!!!
Yes! You!

No-think,

Listen,

Listen to the no-matter chatter...
Become one
Become two
Become few - jump!

Halfawake Me clocks the watch
to measure time-
mind's half-hour in 180 seconds.

Mindplay plays plays with spiral plots-
friends I have there,
buddies and sweethearts
who tell me woetails
seeking advice.
I respond in bible-babble meaninglessness,
no clue what I say or do-
Careth who?
Not me - not you.
For thence I am gone too,
vanishing through vaporous goo,
plaid and poinsettia patterns
swooshing by and spinning,
deep voice begging dark secret...

Snore

Wakes me up
Body wants more
Eyes preen seein' lavender evergreens

under sky of black & blues,
yawn and stretch and yawn again...
Dreamtime's end.
-Amen
